Crossfit Dixie
Crossfit Dixie is a St. George, Utah local fitness company that found our service through a Google blog search. We were contacted a little over a month ago by Kyle Boyer-one of Crossfit Dixie’s owners and trainers. They had an existing blog website that wasn’t working for them. It had multiple usability issues and functionality problems.
We met with Kyle and his brother Kade (who is also a Crossfit Dixie owner and trainer). They were both certain about needing a blog that was simplified and easy to use; not only simplified for the user, but also for them. WordPress of course is what we recommended! It has the perfect easy to use content management system, and also the incredible open source engine to manage their blog.
After searching through multiple fitness and related website blogs it was very clear that the most effective presentation for this content rich medium is a simplified approach. Thus, after several design comps:
One was decided on by Kyle and Kade as their favorite:
WordPress, originally a open source blogging system has evolved into a multi-purpose back end system with various functions and plug-ins. Crossfit Dixie is a straight forward fitness blog, so WordPress was used in this instance in its most simplistic and original approach.
We used the jQuery plug-in LavaLamp for the navigation animation. It was very easy to implement and has a nice small footprint. jQuery was also used for the drop down menus, and contact form verification. We haven’t figured out if it’s the LavaLamp script or CSS, but we have ran into issues getting it to work in Internet Explorer 6. Yippy for IE6!! Hopefully with IE8 now on the market we will see less and less of need to design around this horrible browser!! Not that IE7 or IE8 are anything to jump up and down about. I’m sure all designers and developers will rejoice with the final phase out of IE6 though.
It would have been very nice to use CSS3 in confidence to round the corners of this multiple box design. There are several Javascript options for getting this to work cross-browser, but ultimately we opted to stay with the div graphic approach.
All things said Kyle and Kade are very happy with the simplistic and easy to use features of their new website. Check it out at Crossfitdixie.com

Hey Jason we do love our blog but more importantly our clients love our blog. I get comments on it almost daily and it is a great tool for me to continue teaching them about how to be healthier, fitter, and happier. Thanks again as it has been an absolute pleasure working with you.
Kade
